Safe boat operations begins with the boat operator and is shared with everyone on board. The boat operator is responsible to train any individual who is expected to do certain tasks on board. Also the boat operator must provide some basic safety orientation for those who are coming on-board for the first time. It’s important to share where they can go on board, what to expect when the boat encounters waves and what do do if there’s an emergency. We’ve outlined a few boating events that highlight some safe boat operations.

Safe Passage

Passing from a body of water that is at a higher elevation to a body of water that is at a lower elevation requires an elevator or LOCKS. We will explore the safe passage at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks or commonly known as The Ballard Locks.

The Perfect Surrounding

The Christmas Ship offers boaters the opportunity to exhibit their boating skills following the Christmas Ship in celebration of the festive activities.

Movable Bridges

The South Park Bridge was replaced with a new bridge. This is the old bridge, no longer in existence. It was able to open its bridge spans allowing boat traffic safe passage from the Duwamish River to Puget Sound.
